Valuable Diplomat Friends, Academicians,
I would like to greet you with warm heart feelings.
First of all, I would like to make a remark that Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu couldn't join us today, despite his invitation to this Forum for Mahmud Tarzi who has great importance in improving the relations between two countries, due to his busy schedule.
I would like to take this opportunity to deliver his regards to all participants.
Diplomats and Experts we get in contact from time to time, question the close and multidimensional relations between Turkey and Afghanistan. The relations between two countries get its power from history. The role of leaders like King Aman Ullah and Mahmud Tarzi have been very creative.
Mahmud Tarzi is one of the very important intellectuals of his time. In spite of this death 75 years ago, he continues to show the way with his ideas.
Mahmud Tarzi played a great role on working on the great values that gathered King Aman Ullah and Ataturk.
The biggest moves Mahmud Tarzi wanted in his country were modernisation and modern education.
Both Leaders believed modernisation is the most effective way to fight with extremism and spent great effort in modernisation of the educational institutions.
Mahmud Tarzi started the first newspaper in his country during the time of Emir Habibullah, father of King Amanullah Han, which started the modern journalism and accepted the importance of media.
Mahmud Tarzi served in Literature with his multidimensional works.
He translated works in English, French and Turkish to Farsi and his well educated daughters had great help to him.
Mahmud Tarzi is the idea father of the Afghan Educational Reform effected beginning of 20th century.
He was appointed the first Foreign Minister of Afghanistan in 1919 after Amanullah Han appointed as the King.
Unfortunately, Tarzi couldn't make all his dreams come true, had to leave his position after the rebellion against Amanullah Han in 1928 and with the invitation of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, he and his family came to Turkey and he passed away here.
Mahmud Tarzi Cultural Foundation, has an important mission to continue this intellecual's memory who has great place in Afghanistand and World history.
With this Forum, I respectively greet great idea man Mahmud Tarzi who continues to be the guide of the new generation with his ideas. I also would like to congratulate the MTCF Foundation and the President Mr. Omer Tarzi for having us in this important gathering.
